Volunteers nationwide will take part in the annual Clean up Australia Day event on Sunday March 3, 2013.

Householder’s Options to Protect the Environment Inc (HOPE) has joined the call for everyone (including business) to lend a hand to help clean- up.

With the challenges already faced by many Australians this year, the 2013 Clean Up is set to be even bigger and greater volunteer numbers are needed on the day.

According to Frank Ondrus, President of HOPE, the impact of recent natural disasters, means volunteers will be facing their biggest challenge in years.

“In the aftermath of the Queensland floods, the bushfires and cyclones, Australia is facing a huge clean up.”

“Most people have watched helplessly as the recent natural disasters wrecked havoc on Australian communities,” he said, “And you may be asking ‘What can I do to help?’”

“Although you may not be able to help these communities directly, you can easily make a huge difference to your local streets, parks, reserves, waterways and beaches.”

According to Mr. Ondrus, Clean Up Australia Day, is not only an opportunity to reduce pollution, but it’s also a chance to encourage community spirit in your local area.

Over Clean Up Australia’s long history volunteers have transformed the nation on Clean Up Australia Day. Recent figures show that volunteers have contributed more than 24 million hours to help the environment by removing over 237,500 tonnes of rubbish.
