Government department commits to science-based policy

Two peak bodies for science researchers today welcomed the release of the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry’s Science Strategy 2013-2018, a document that aims to ensure government policy is informed by science.

The strategy underlined the importance of science to public policy development, said Andrew Metcalfe AO, Secretary.

Carbon price repeal would shrink renewable energy but increase retail electricity prices

If Australia’s emissions trading scheme (ETS) is repealed, renewable energy production would shrink and Australia would fail to meet our renewable energy target, according to an analysis conducted on behalf of WWF-Australia.

The report, prepared by specialist carbon and energy research firm RepuTex, also found it.

World Bank kicks coal, but will the rest of the world follow?

Colin Hunt, The University of Queensland World Bank president Jim Yong Kim recently announced that the Bank would cut coal from its portfolio of investment projects. Clean Energy Regulator introduces new reporting software

17 April, 2013 The Clean Energy Regulator has developed a new online reporting system which will be used by all liable entities required to report their emissions, energy consumption and production under the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER) Scheme.
