Switch5tThe University of Queensland will host a screening of Switch, a documentary aimed at building a balanced national understanding of energy, from solar to coal, biofuels to oil.

As part of the Switch Energy Project, energy expert Dr Scott Tinker gives a view of the world’s leading energy sites to discover how countries will shift from coal and oil to the energies of tomorrow.

UQ Energy Initiative Director Professor Chris Greig said the event on Monday 11 March would provide answers to today’s important energy questions.

“Dr Tinker manages to give a straightforward explanation of our energy future that is insightful and refreshingly honest,” he said.

“The UQ community is excited by this opportunity as it has many research and study projects under way.”

“UQ welcomes any opportunity to raise awareness in relation to energy security and sustainability,” Professor Greig said.

Those interested in attending the free screening at UQ’s Sir Llew Edwards Auditorium at 6:30pm on Monday 11 March should register with c.deeming@uq.edu.au.

More about the documentary, Switch:

In 2009, documentary filmmaker Harry Lynch and geologist Dr. Scott Tinker set out to make a film on our energy transition. The goal was not to advocate for one technology over another, not to suggest how the transition should happen — but to try to determine how it actually would happen, based on scientifically-sound investigation and the practical realities of the world of energy as we discovered them. The result, is Switch.

What does the future of energy really hold? Join energy visionary Dr. Scott Tinker on a spectacular global adventure to find out.

Dr. Tinker explores the world’s leading energy sites, from coal to solar, oil to biofuels, many highly restricted and never before seen on film. He gets straight answers from the people driving energy today, international leaders of government, industry and academia. In the end, he cuts through the confusion to discover a path to our future that is surprising and remarkably pragmatic.

Switch is the first truly balanced energy film, embraced and supported by people all along the energy spectrum – fossil and renewable, academic and environmental.
